Novelli adds year to AARP contract, will retire in 2010

AARPs chief executive William Novelli says he will stay on the job for another year, but plans to retire from the organization in January 2010. In 2006, Novelli signed a new three-year contract with AARP that would have extended his job through 2009. The additional year will give his organization time to adjust to new leadership in the White House and a new legislative agenda. His impending retirement triggers the groups transition plan, which has been in development for the last six months.
